NINA LAVERNE PENDERGRAST

Nina LaVerne "Sue" Pendergrast was born in Garnett, Kansas in 1921. She grew up in Ottawa, Kansas where she met and married Don, her husband of 66 years. Don served in the Air Force for 28 years and Sue was always ready to go on a new adventure. She represented the United States with her husband in a gracious and exemplary manner. They lived in Lisbon, Portugal, Virginia, Texas, Ohio and Tokyo, Japan. They retired, but were active in the community of the Lake of the Pines in Texas. In 2003 they moved to Panama City, Florida to be close to family.

Sue loved the Girl Scouts. As a young woman, she was awarded the Golden Eaglet and received the Girl Scout lifetime award for her work.

Sue always had an active imagination and loved to tell stories of her adventures and the people she knew. She wrote and published a book about her Great Aunt Maggie Smith.

On Saturday, July 12, 2008, Sue went for a walk with her Lord. She was surrounded by her family who loved her and is survived by her husband Donald W. Pendergrast, her daughter Donna and son Thomas. She has three grandchildren Jess, Matthew and Rian and three great grandchildren Kayla, Ethan and Lilly.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tully Hunter officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of the Emerald Coast, 2925 Martin Luther King Blvd, Panama City, FL 32405 or to Grace Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, 1415 Airport Road, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Sue Pendergrast.
