Newton Erwin Allen, Jr. died July 7, 2017 after a battle with cancer of more than six years. He was born January 9, 1939 in Selma, AL. He attended The University of Alabama and graduated from Livingston State College. For 32 years he was a teacher of social studies ("joggerfee") and coach of football, golf, and swimming. His other love was sailing – whether teaching others how or cruising on his own boat to the Keys and the Bahamas. He was a past commodore of St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Newton E. Allen and Fannie Hardy Allen and his son Kenneth Erwin Allen. Newt is survived by his wife, Alice, brothers Walter (Diane) Allen, Jere (Joe Ann) Allen and his children, Rives Allen, Creed (Karen) Allen, Margaret (David) Peeples, Elizabeth Smith, Scott ( Ashley) Freeman, and John Robert (Chandra) Kingston, thirteen grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
The funeral service will be held at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11:00. The family will receive friends at the church at 10 prior to the service. Interment will be in the family plot at New Live Oak Cemetery at 2:00 on Friday, July 14.
