Nellie Fults Althauser
Nellie Fults Althauser, 97, died peacefully at her Florida home December 12, 2011.
Nellie was born in Crystal City, Missouri, November 26, 1914, to Joseph Edward and Sadie M. (nee Wilcox) Fults. Four older brothers, Zeno, Francis, Raymond, and Sidney Fults and two younger sisters, Eleanor O'Neill and Bonnie Rodemich, preceded her in death. Nellie was the wife of Wilbur Stephen Althauser for 52 years before his death in 1988. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Jodie) Mills, of Lynn Haven and a son, John (Janet) Althauser of Champaign, Illinois, five grandchildren, Melissa (Douglas) Cornwell of St. Charles, MO, Laura Mills of Tallahassee, FL, Ian Mills of Lynn Haven, Jaclyn Althauser of Arlington Heights, TX, and Michael Althauser of Champaign, IL, dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Nellie worked as a secretary for several years, then enjoyed being a homemaker. She was an active 88 year member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City, MO, and was a member of Tuesday Music Club, Extension Club, DAR, Jefferson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Jefferson County Historical Society and a Girl Scout leader, She became a member of Lynn Haven Presbyterian Church in 2004 upon her move to Florida. Her lifelong interests included classical music, history, wildflowers, writing, cats, travel, conservation, baking exceptionally good cookies, and quietly caring for loved ones, especially her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Nellie's life will be held Friday, December 16, 2011, at 3:00 pm at Lynn Haven Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating, and a reception following in Mowat Hall. The funeral will be Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Grace Presbyterian Church, Crystal City, MO, conducted by Rev. Dewey Johnson. Nellie will be buried beside her husband in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Crystal City, MO.
