Obituary

Myrtle Gage Walker, 95, passed away in her home on Monday, May 23. Myrtle was born Dec 11, 1920 in Chickasaw, AL. She moved to Panama City, with her parents, at age 5. Myrtle graduated from Bay High School, Class of 1939 and started a career in banking. She married John H. Walker in 1945 and together they raised 4 children. Myrtle was an active member of First Baptist Church for 85 years. At the time of her passing, she was the longest standing member of First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Junior Woman's Club & Woman's Club of Panama City, the Birthday Girls Group, Friday Night Widows Group, Bay Med Plus Advisory Board, and many other church activities including the WMU and Tuesday Morning Bible study. After raising her children she returned to banking with Bay Bank until her retirement in 1979. Friendly and outgoing, Myrtle loved her family and her friends and enjoyed participating in any activity to which she was invited. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy & Maud Gage; her husband, John H. Walker, and son-in-law Bill Payne. She is survived by her children, Clark Walker (Linda) of Powder Springs, GA; Gage Payne of Marietta, GA; Jim Walker and Jeff Walker (Barbara) both of Panama City, FL, ten grandchildren; Chris Hope(Tara),David Walker(Liz), Scott Walker, Timothy Walker, Anna Kate Gill (Jon), Cherish Walker, Heath Walker, Allen Walker (Charis), Ryan Walker (Sara), Chris Hilburn (Cyndie); and 5 great-grandchildren; Riley Walker, Grace Walker, Claire Hope, Scotty Walker, Alex Walker and the upcoming arrival of baby Walker. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Panama City at one o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 28, with Rev. Bill Sears officiating. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home from 5 to 7 on Friday, May 27. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Her grandsons will be active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tommy and Jewell Harding, Sarah Ann and John Gay, Milton and Dianne Buckley, Carl Gay and the Devotion Sunday School Class.
