MYRTLE DAY HODGES

Myrtle Day Hodges, 91, passed away on July 3, 2011.

She was born in Blakely, Georgia on September 2, 1919 and moved to Panama City in 1933 where she was graduated from Bay High School in the Class of 1937. She was a committed Christian, a member of Northside Baptist Church, a Charter Member of Cook Memorial (now Emerald Coast Fellowship) Baptist church and a frequent visitor at Holy Nativity Episcopal Parish.

Mrs. Hodges was a career employee of The Singer Company in Panama City where she taught many young women to sew, supported beginners and experts in their sewing, and was a bookkeeper and manager at the retail store when she retired in 1980. She is also remembered for her own creative business of personalized monogramming for clothing and accessories. She was a Sunday School teacher, an avid follower of public affairs, and a poll worker. Her later years were enriched by the love of her family and especially by the lives and children of her granddaughters who were the joy of her life. She was always there - loving them, encouraging them, helping them to succeed and grow in every way.

She is survived by her son Don Hodges and his wife Dianne, granddaughters Laurie Foley (Joe) and Michele Hillegass (Aaron) of Decatur, Georgia, granddaughter Jill Hodges-Magnelia (Cedric) of London, U.K., great-grandchildren Arthur Foley, Zoe Magnelia, Walden Hillegass, Niccolo Magnelia and Otto Hillegass, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded into eternal rest by her husband R. C. Hodges, Jr., brothers John, Lofton, and P. H. Day, infant twin sister Mildred Day and sister Evelyn Day Joyner.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted by Dr. J. E. Hodges at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM. The family requests no flowers and suggests supporting your own church or charity to the Glory of God.
