MILDRED J. HOOKS
Mrs. Mildred J. Hooks passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at her home following an extended illness. She was surrounded by her family. Mildred was born August 6, 1920, in Sunflower, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi State College for Women. She was a wonderful wife and mother who, with her husband Arthur Hooks, raised four children. As our mother, she was very involved in our lives, serving as den mother, scout leader, school room mother and an example of what a loving mother should be. She and her husband of 57 years shared many wonderful times and delightful memories as part of the Bay Line Railroad family. She loved traveling and the opportunity to make new friends. Mildred had been a resident of Panama City since June, 1965. She was very involved in community service. She was on the board of directors of the Community Services Foundation, previously The Kidney Foundation, which she was instrumental in helping to establish in Bay County. She was also active in The Garden Club, The Junior Service League, The Yacht Club Auxiliary, First United Methodist Church women's circle, and The Petitpoint Club. She was the pianist for The Lillie Pennington Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church for years. Earlier, Mildred was a model for Smith's. She is survived by her loving children: Linda (Jim) Brennan of Montgomery, Alabama; Gayle (Jim) Greenwood of Atlanta, Georgia; and Vance (Rhonda) Hooks and Henry (Bess) Hooks of Panama City, Florida. She had ten grandchildren: Christy (Air) Brennan Soukhamneut, Paige Brennan, Jamie Brennan, Arthur Hooks, Eric (Stephanie) Hooks, David Greenwood, Laura Greenwood, Elizabeth Hooks, Alison Hooks, and Michael Hooks. She had four great-grandchildren: Gregory Soukhamneut, Morgan Soukhamneut, Ryan Hooks, and Madelyn Hooks. Serving as active pallbearers will be Air Soukhamneut, Arthur Hooks, Eric Hooks, Scott Bostwick, David Greenwood, and Michael Hooks. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tuesday and Wednesday Bridge clubs and the Friday Foursome Bridge club. Visitation will be Friday evening, January 26, 2007, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, January 27, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Panama City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mildred's memory to the Si Mathison Memorial Family Life building fund at First Methodist Church of Panama City or the Community Services Foundation of Bay County.
