Michael Ray Holmes, 49, of Panama City, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014. He was born on September 21, 1964 in Morgan City, Louisiana and moved to Florida in the early 1980's. He was a commercial fisherman by trade. He came from a family of commercial fishermen. His grandfather, Frank Holmes, is in the book of Archives in the state capital of Springfield, Illinois for one of the largest manual catches seen fishing. He began his fishing career with his uncle, Ubain Barras, at the age of 15. After moving to Florida, he continued and became one of the top fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico. He enjoyed and loved everything about the water. In his spare time, he lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby T. Holmes. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Holmes O'Bryan; one grandson, Colton O'Bryan; mother, Emma J. Holmes Bedford and husband F.W. Bedford; soul mate, Tina Landry; two brothers, Clifford A. Holmes, David P. Holmes; and his faithful companion, Sassy. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m.
