Melton T. Hewett
Melton Tyson Hewett, 87, of Panama City, Florida went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2008. He was born in Blountstown, Florida and attended high school there. Tyson retired from Federal Civilian Service with the Department of Air Force after 31 years of service. He was assigned to the Fire Fighting & Rescue Section at Tyndall AFB, Florida. He served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy (he served on the USS Arkansas and USS Miami), U. S. Army and U. S. Air Force. He was a 20-year member of the Oakland Terrace Mens Club, Panama City, Florida. He was famous for his banana pudding, homemade biscuits, copper head dinner rolls and his fig preserves that he prepared each month for the Mens Club dinners. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and cook. Tyson always shared from his garden with his neighbors and friends.
Survivors include: His wife, Flora M. Hewett; his daughter, Peggy M. Lewis and husband, Jerry of Panama City, Fla; his son, Michael H. Mainz and wife, Sherrie of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Frank Lucero, brother of Flora M. Hewett, Panama City, Fla; Nita Holt McLean, cousin, of Montgomery, Alabama; J. L. Hewett (deceased) and wife, Maudell G. Hewett of Pineview, Georgia.
Special thanks to: Dr. Bruce Josten, long-time family doctor, Dr. Abdelghany, Resident Doctor, nurses and certified nurse assistants (300 Hall) at St. Andrews Bay Nursing Home, and Covenant Hospice of Panama City, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, 214 Airport Road, Panama City, Florida on Monday, January 5 at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday from 5 – 6 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Virgil Tillman will be officiating.
