Obituary

On October 25, 2014, our precious mother, Mavis J. Moseley, was gently called home after a brief illness to a place of perfect peace, joy, and beauty.
Mavis was born on April 5, 1925, in Barbour County, Alabama, near Clio, Alabama. She was the sixth of seven children born to the late Early and Gusta Jimmerson. Four sisters preceded her in death, Exie Mae McKnight, Gladys Thomas Dillard, Clara Jimmerson, Vela Lindner, and Eva Mae Phillips and one brother, Ray Jimmerson. Mavis was preceded in death by her former husbands, Howard A. McGill (1946) and John F. Moseley (1981).
She attended school the first nine years in Skipperville, Alabama, and finished her last three years at Dale County High in Ozark, Alabama. Later, she attended Troy State Teachers College, earning a B.S. degree in education. In the late 50's, "Miss Mavis" and John attended FSU earning their Masters degrees in education.
Mavis taught elementary school for thirty-four years, thirty two of those years in Bay County. She was on the first faculties of Oakland Terrace School and Northside Elementary.
After her retirement in 1985, she enjoyed traveling within the United States and to other countries. No matter where she traveled, she never forgot her rural heritage. She loved to read, delighted others with her cooking, especially her custard pies, sew, crochet, and garden with her very green thumb.
Mavis loved her church family at St. Andrews Methodist, where she was a member. She was a member and shared teaching Sunday School for the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was an active member of Bay County Retired Teachers Association, being known for crocheting many beautiful afghans and donating them to help raise funds for scholarships.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sandra Destival (Richard) and Faye Register (Jerry). She was Granny Moseley to Kevin Collier (Kim), Allison Collier (David), Grant Register (Roxanne), and Mark Register (Karrie). Granny Mo-Mo loved her great grandchildren, Lauren (Brandon), Lindsey, Emma, Hunter, Paige, Matthew, and Braileigh. She was looking forward to becoming a great, great grandmother of twin boys, to be born this March. She is also survived by step grandchildren Dan Destival, Tammy Fox, and Devin Destival, Julia Cress, and their respective families.

Visitation will be held Monday night from 5-7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amy Persons Parkes and Rev. John Whitley officiating.
In lieu of flowers and per Mrs. Moseley's wishes, it would be her pleasure to have donations made in her memory to The John F. Moseley Perpetual Scholarship Fund at Gulf Coast State College.
