MARY NELLE POPE MOSLEY SHOEMAKER

Mary Nelle Pope Mosley Shoemaker passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in her home. She was born December 20, 1918 in St Andrews, FL and was the second of three children born to the late William Merritt Pope, Sr. and Willie Ethel Spiva Pope. Mary Nelle attended St. Andrews Elementary and graduated from Bay County High School and attended Florida State College for Women and Auburn University.

Mary Nelle worked as the Executive Director of the American Red Cross Association for 10 years in Panama City.

She is preceded in death by husband, A. Crawford Mosley, Sr.; son, William Frank "Bill' Mosley; brother, William Meritt Pope, Jr. and sister, Nan Margaret Pope Mathis.

She is survived by husband, James M. Shoemaker; children, Mary Nan Mosley Whitehurst, Arthur C. Mosley, Jr., and Olivia Lynn Mosley Bonner (Duston); grandchildren, Scott Crawford Whitehurst (Melissa), Bonnie Olivia Whitehurst Hayes (Danny), Anderson A. Barnes, Mary Olivia "Molly" Barnes; four great grandchildren, four nephews and two nieces.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Oakland Cemetery in Panama City, FL. The family will receive friends at their home in Lynn Haven following the graveside. Pallbearers include Anderson Barnes, Duston Bonner, Powell Ennis, Danny Hayes, Jim Prater, Allen Pope, David Shoemaker, Gary Shoemaker and Scott Whitehurst.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 430 East 15th Street, Panama City, 32405 or to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405.
