Obituary

Acclaimed Florida high school educator and administrator Mary Lou Mullon, 79, died Sunday at sunset, January 20th in Panama City, Florida. Mrs. Mullon taught high school and served as an administrator in Cocoa Beach and Palmetto, Florida for over 25 years. Mrs. Mullon was the first female comet class yachtsman on Long Island Sound, New York; a Florida state committee woman for the Democratic Party; and credited with helping develop the statewide social studies curriculum during the 1970s in Florida. She received a Masters' degree in Education from Stetson University, Deland and was an Honors Graduate at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts.

In death, she was preceded by husband William Sanders Mullon, Sr. and son Nicholas Harry John Mullon. She is survived by sons Bill Mullon and wife Tammy, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Patrick and wife Cindy, Parkland; daughter Lynn M. d'Albertis and husband Michael, Panama City Beach, and daughter-in-law Denise Mullon, Cocoa Beach; grandsons Matt Mullon, Cocoa Beach, Ward Chester and wife Summer, Panama City Beach, Calvin Chester, Panama City Beach, Chandler Mullon and Quentin Mullon, Ft. Lauderdale: grand daughters Charmaine Ochs, Cocoa Beach, Ashlea Mullon and Anna Mullon, Louisville, Kentucky, Roxanne Mullon, Atlanta, Georgia, Whitney Mullon, Parkland and Olivia Mullon, Ft. Lauderdale; and great-grandson Gavin Chester, Panama City Beach; and great grand daughters Brooke Brown, Cocoa Beach and Trinity Chester, Panama City Beach.

A Mary Lou Finnegan Mullon scholarship for Mount Holyoke College is being established. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the scholarship fund is encouraged. Checks can be mailed to: Mullon Mount Holyoke Fund at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday Feb. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation Holmes Beach. An event to recognize Mrs. Mullon's contribution to Cocoa Beach High School and Brevard County Schools will take place Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 pm on Beach Walk at CBHS.
