Obituary

Mary Cameron Hulgan passed away at the age of 64 on February 21, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born March 5, 1960 in Ft Worth Texas to Robert Peel Cameron, MD and Sue Curtis Cameron, the family moved to Panama City FL when she was 3 years of age.  Mary graduated from Bay High School in 1978 and was a business manager for her father's medical practice and a local broadcasting company before attending Florida State University to study mathematics.  She earned her bachelor's degree in 1988 and later continued her graduate studies at the University of Tennessee.  In 1990, Mary returned to Panama City to serve in various program management and leadership roles at the US Naval Surface Warfare Center.  She devoted 32 years to federal service before retiring in 2022.

Mary is best known for giving back to her community.  She served on the board of the Panama City Music Association for many years to help bring fine arts, culture, and musical performances to Bay County. She also served as a mentor to young professionals through Leadership Bay and several Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics initiatives.  Further, Mary was a past president of the Panama City FL chapter of Girls Incorporated and inspired many girls to become strong, confident leaders.

Mary had a wonderful personality and a smile that could light up a room.  Even in the worst of times when asked how her day was going, she would reply "just ducky", with a smile and a wink.   She enjoyed simple pleasures such as cooking with family and friends and spoiling her adopted pets, and often said the key to being happy and content is having something to look forward to. Mary was also a talented bridge player and was taught at a young age.  She enjoyed many afternoons and evenings of fellowship with her Sisters of Bridge who will miss her dearly.

Mary leaves behind her loving husband Jim and many life-long friends.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brothers Robert Peel Cameron, Jr. and William Curtis Cameron.

Funeral services will be held in the Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 5 at 2 PM, with a celebration of life to follow at the residence of Don and Ann Johnston, 1231 N Bay Dr, Lynn Haven FL 32444.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Girls Inc., The Lucky Puppy Rescue, or the American Cancer Society.
