Mary Curtiss Bales, 92, of Panama City went home to be with her Lord and Savior June 28, 2013. She was born in Wilmington, NC to Gordon and Mamie Barnwell Curtiss. Mrs. Bales was married to J. Clayton Bales for 57 years. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Betty and Robert Arehart of Virginia Beach, VA, Peggy and Neil Daniels of Houston, TX, Judy and John Belcher of Panama City Beach; five grandchildren: Alan Arehart (Robin), Laura Smith (Trey), Mark Daniels (Mary), Kim Derry (Toby), Beth Senichenko (Geoff); seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church. Mrs. Bales was one of the first residents at Mathison Retirement Center when it opened in 2000. In the 12 years she lived there, she loved and appreciated Mathison's caring employees and enjoyed the friendships of the other residents. Since January 2013, she has been at St Andrews Bay Skilled Nursing Facility. Her family would like to express appreciation to those employees who cared for her during that time and to Covenant Hospice caregivers who gave her special care during her last days. Visitation will be at 10 am on Monday, July 8 at Wilson Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 11 am in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Irwin officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City.
