Obituary

Martha Lee Bridges Traxler passed from death to life everlasting on August 5, 2022 (John 5:24).  Martha Lee was the daughter of Mr. Oscar Lee and Mrs. Mattie Lou Bridges, sister to Donna Bridges Jones and wife of Dr. Malcolm M. Traxler.  While we mourn the loss of her physical presence, we delight in our Lord and Savior's promise that he gave to Martha in John's gospel.

While at Bay High School Martha Lee received the D.A.R. Good Citizenship Award and was voted Most Likely to Succeed. At Agnes Scott College, she served as Baptist Student Union President and served two years in Student Government. After transferring to the University of Georgia, Martha Lee served as the Chi Omega Chaplain and Chapter Correspondent.  After graduating with a degree in English, she taught third grade in Bay County and was a Charter member and first Secretary of Bay County Early Childhood Association.

Martha Lee served as Historian and eventually Vice President for the Bay Medical Auxiliary. She also worked as a receptionist in her husband's pediatric office.  She served in the Junior Woman's Club and also fulfilled the roles of Vice President and President of the Junior Service League.  Martha Lee was voted Outstanding Young Woman of the Year in 1969 and garnered awards for submissions to state poetry contests.  She was also a member of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club Auxiliary.  Martha Lee was a Charter member of the local chapter of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century serving as both Membership and Scholarship Chairman, and was also local chapter librarian of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was a member of the National Society of Magna Carta Dames, and also served as Captain of the Civic Music Association.  She was a Garden Club member and Chairman of First Baptist Church Hospitality committee, in addition to serving as an organizational leader of the International Mission Action Group.  Martha Lee took particular pleasure in helping with the children's groups in Sunday School, as well as in visiting those in nursing homes and sending notes and prayers to those in need.

Martha Lee is survived by her son, Malcolm M. Traxler Jr, M.D., his wife Susan Grant Traxler, M.D., and their two children, Lauren Malone and William Grant Traxler; her daughter, Martha Lee Varney and son-in-law, John Daniel Varney; nieces Sharon Jones Cole, Donna Lee Jones, and Raymond Allen Jones III.

Martha Lee Traxler leaves behind an indisputable legacy of faith, encouraging all her loved ones to heed the words of 1 Peter 3:18, which her life certainly exemplified.  Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 5:30-7 pm.  Her memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, in the old sanctuary of First Baptist Church Panama City.  In lieu of flowers, her family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association ( www.alz.org ) and the Colon Cancer Coalition ( www.coloncancercoalition.org ).
