Obituary

Marsha Kay (McConnell) Schneider, of Panama City Beach, beloved daughter, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 11, 2025 surrounded by loved ones after a brave battle with cancer. She was 70 years old. She will be remembered for her fierce, loyal spirit as well as her longtime commitment to serving those in the community in which she lived.

Kay was born on December 10, 1954 in Panama City. She graduated from Bay High School in 1972. It was there, in Key Club, where her dedication to serving the community began to grow. She earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from The University of Florida in 1976. Her fierce love of the Gators was second only to her love for her family.

After college, she found her way to Knoxville, TN where she began a family, fell in love with the Smoky Mountains and continued her community service serving as secretary of the local Chapter of the Jaycee Women's Organization.

She eventually made it home and settled in Panama City Beach where she took over the family business and dedicated herself to serving others. She was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Panama City, where she served as President (06-08) as well as Secretary and Member of the Board of Directors. She served on the Bay County Centennial Celebration Committee and was a Member of the Board of Directors for the Bay County Library Foundation.

Her family would like to thank her care team and all of the medical professionals at MD Anderson, Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, and Gulf Coast Hospital who dedicated so much energy to her care.

Kay is preceded in death by her father, Robert L. "Scrappy" McConnell Jr.; son, Robert Andrew "Drew" Schneider; brother, John Daniel McConnell, as well as a host of loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her mother, Frances "Mike" McConnell; son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Autumn Schneider; cherished grandsons, Kasey and Lucas Schneider; brother, Robert L. McConnell III, and a special circle of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her remains will be cremated and memorialized at a later date with a private gathering of close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating at panamacitykiwanis.org or Kiwanis Club of Panama City, P.O. Box 796, Panama City, Florida 32402 in her honor.
