Obituary

Mrs. Maris Virginia (Zediker) McQuagge, 89, of Panama City, FL went home to our Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 13, 2026. She was a former Miss Jinks, a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls where she served as a Worthy Advisor, and a 1955 Bay High School graduate. Through the years, she continued her love of learning by taking courses at Gulf Coast Community College. Maris worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist for Dr. Keller, a local orthodontist.

She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where she laid the cornerstone for the church’s construction on 11th Street. Maris and Joe were the first couple to be married in the sanctuary. She was active in the Rebekah Circle, a devoted member of the Golden Circle Sunday School class, and a dedicated chorister in the chancel choir. She served on numerous church committees and gave herself wholeheartedly to the church for the majority of her life.

Maris enjoyed years of competitive tennis, Friday night ballroom dancing with her high school sweetheart Joe, gardening and helping others. She never met a stranger and was eager to help anyone in need. She was a caring daughter, sister and friend.

“Mimi” was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years, Joe Ellis McQuagge of Panama City, FL and her son Steve McQuagge of Conroe, Texas, grandson Connor McQuagge, of Coppell, TX, daughter-in-law Nan McQuagge of Panama City, FL and brother Jimmy Zediker, of Panama City, FL. She is survived by sons Andy McQuagge of Panama City, FL, Troy McQuagge (wife Randi) of Colleyville, TX, and daughter Melanie Fortunato (husband LtCol Andrew Fortunato, USMC Ret.) of Keller, TX; six grandchildren, Jonathan McQuagge (wife Lauren), Drew McQuagge (wife Brittney), Madi McQuagge, Wesley McQuagge (wife Wynn), Alicia Fortunato and Capt Zane Fortunato, USMC; four great-grandchildren, Kelli Grace McQuagge, McKinley McQuagge, Rowen McQuagge, and Margot McQuagge and one great-great grandchild, Hudson McQuagge, as well as a brother Dr. Arthur Zediker, and sister Glenda Evans.

Visitation will take place on Thursday evening August 20, 2026, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday afternoon August 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
