Maria H. Daut, 94, beloved aunt of Elke McCoy and Barbara Price, passed away at Covenant Hospice, Bay Medical Center, on April 6, 2018. She was born in Muenzenburg, Germany on March 13, 1924, and received an education at a convent where her Godmother, a nun, was her teacher. She studied French and English and was employed as a translator until 1953, when she decided to visit her sister, Betty in Brisbane, Australia. While on the ship voyage there, she met Karl Daut and later married him. In 1960, she and her husband emigrated to the United States of America and soon became a citizen. She moved to Panama City in 1975 and lived here until her death. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Karl Daut, her sister, Anna Gillespie, her three brothers, Joseph, Wilhelm and Helmut Helwig. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Talarek of Brisbane, Australia; nieces, Elke McCoy and husband, Don McCoy; Barbara Price and husband Jerry Price; Gabriela Talarek; grand-nephew, Bill McCoy and grand-nieces, Michelle Stebbins and Christine Cooper, and beloved friend Roswitha Deselle. A funeral mass for the family will be held to honor her life. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held early May. Maria was a bank teller for most of her working life and prided herself on always having a correct balance at the end of the day. She loved to read historical novels. She also enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for many of her friends' children. The family would like to extend special thanks to Covenant Hospice for their loving care in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Covenant Hospice in memory of Maria.
