MAMIE TAYLOR GRANTHAM DEAN

Our loving mother, Mamie Taylor Grantham Dean, 96, went home to her Lord, Thursday morning, July 24, 2008. We feel richly blessed to call this lady our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great Great-Grandmother. Mom will be missed so much, but we will always cherish the memories of good times we shared with her. She never lost her faith in God and this is the strength she showed to all of us. Mamie Taylor was born June 16, 1912 to Nathan and Mary Equilla Taylor in Nashville, Georgia. She married James Samuel Grantham in 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband and infant twin daughters. They were the parents of her surviving children, Jim Grantham and wife, Sandra and Mary Ann Grantham Wilson and husband, Jim. She leaves her grandchildren Joyce Dugan (Steve), Pati Crumbly (Bob), Pam Wilson, Skip Grantham (Michelle), Tracy Grantham, Janet Caragan (J.R.), Kathy Francis, Kimberly Frye (Glen), and Joy Noble (Michael): eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mamie was also widowed by husbands Gus Clements and Walter Seymour. Coy and Mamie Dean were married 28 years until his death in 2001. She was loved by her extended families, the late Bill Clements and wife Valera, Sara Ann Clements Farrell and husband Pete, Carol Seymour, Sarah Dean Buffington and husband Bob and Nancy Dean Hunter and her late husband Bill. All of their children knew her as Grandma. Mamie is survived by her sisters, Mary Ethel Truman, Pauline Stewart and Anita Densmore. Her brother Dewey and sisters Grace, Leta, Edith, and Hazel preceded her in death. Many nieces and nephews cherish Aunt Mamie. Mother loved life and always treated everyone with kindness. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, sewing and quilting. Fishing was a favorite past-time and the Chipola River was her favorite place. She faithfully attended First Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. The family wishes to thank Mom's long time physicians, Dr. Mathews and Dr. Maner for their care. Also, the care from Gulf Coast Medical Center, St. Andrews Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Covenant Hospice was appreciated. We are especially grateful to her Great-granddaughter, Sandra Marie Gates, who made it possible to bring Mother home by volunteering to be her caregiver. A Celebration of her Life Service will be held Monday, July 28 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 in the morning. Family visitation will be Sunday, July 27 from 2:00 – 4:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made to Covenant Hospice at 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405, in memory of Mamie Taylor Dean.
