IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mallie Edward
"Ed" Goostree Jr.
August 6, 1943 – August 5, 2025
Mallie Edward "Ed" Goostree, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to Heaven peacefully in his sleep while at home in Panama City, FL, on August 5, 2025—just one day before his 82nd birthday.
Born on August 6, 1943, in Clarksville, TN, to Mallie Edward "Eddie" Goostree Sr. and Sara Elizabeth McGregor, Ed's life was a testament to the power of dreams. From a young age, he was captivated by the skies and went on to pursue training in aviation at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. He began flying professionally in 1968, eventually earning the rank of Captain in 1976. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Ed crisscrossed the country in the cockpit, transforming childhood fascination into a lifetime of adventure. He retired in 2010, leaving a legacy of excellence in aviation.
Ed's love for music was as expansive as the skies he flew. He delighted in the sounds of big band, the timeless voice of Sinatra, and the classics of Patsy Cline and Chuck Berry. Music was the backdrop of his life, always present, always joyful.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Ed will remember his unwavering integrity and his legendary sense of humor—he was always ready with an unforgettable tale or a "papi" joke that would light up any room. Ed's humor was as sharp as his intellect and his quick wit could bring a smile to anyone's face. He was a master of thoughtful discussion. His curiosity, intelligence, and thirst for information made him a wise and memorable conversationalist. This gave Ed a natural ability to make connections, cultivate relationships, and forge friendships that withstood the passage of time.
Together with his devoted wife of 55 years, Marie, Ed built a life full of love, laughter, and meaning. He was a proud father to Mary Catherine Dismukes and Lee Edward Goostree (Jenny), and a loving grandfather "Papi" to Riley, Katherine, Ira, Ruthanne, and Margaret. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his sister JoAnn, and his beloved son Michael Edward.
Ed's legacy is one of boundless love and steadfast support for his family and those he held dear. His story reminds us that, much like flying, life is about the journey, not just the destination—and what a beautiful journey his was. He will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in memory of Ed Goostree be made to Holy Nativity School's Stream fund or First Baptist Church of Panama City.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Friday afternoon, August 8th. Services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, 214 Airport Rd, Panama City, FL. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
