Major Juanita Tharp, wife, mother and grandmother entered into the presence of God her Savior on Monday, July 4, 2022. The days proceeding God calling her home were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren sharing family stories, laughing, crying, singing and praying.
Juanita Lee (McFarland)Tharp was born in Atkins, Arkansas on December 27, 1931. She entered the Ambassadors Session of the College for Officers Training in September of 1950 from Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Her first appointment was the Day Nursery in Durham, North Carolina and then The Salvation Army Home and Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She married John Tharp on January 31, 1955. They served together in the following appointments as Corps Officers in the Arkansas-Oklahoma, Florida, Maryland/West Virginia and Texas Divisions. They served as Area Commanders in Austin, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana. They retired on June 30,1996 and resided in Panama City for the last 26 years.
She is survived by her children, Andy(Annette)Tharp, Jeff Tharp, Gene (Connie)Tharp, Beki (Steve) Tharp-Hudson;10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
We pray that God's love will continue to be with the Tharp family, in the thoughts, the prayers and the hearts of those who care and share in the Promotion to Glory of this faithful soldier, well done!
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10 AM at the Salvation Army Church in Lynn Haven. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 9-10 AM prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10 AM Eastern Time at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA.
