Obituary

Louis Ramon Powell, died Saturday, August 24, 2019 at St. Andrew Bay Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was born in Chipley, Florida to Cal Gene Powell and Eufaula Joiner Powell on November 21, 1933. After moving to Quincy, Florida and graduating from high school, he attended Florida State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Kay Overby and began his civil service career in the Florida Army National Guard.
In 1968, he transferred to Panama City with his wife and family. He retired in 1992 after 33 years of service . He was baptized in the Methodist Church. He was Past Master and longtime member of the Ira Lindsey, Sr. Masonic Lodge #365 in Panama City. A man of many interests and talents, Louis was a skilled hunter and fisherman who was very familiar with the backwoods and waterways of Northwest Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. He was a voracious reader and an avid student of the Civil War and World War II. He was an enthusiastic genealogist on both sides of his family and traced his family tree with precision well back into the 1600's and documented a treasure trove of factual and anecdotal information.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Melinda; two brothers, James Gordon Powell and Thomas Clifford Powell
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Melba Kay Overby Powell; his three sons, Shannon Powell, Daniel Powell, Andy Powell (Deborah); granddaughter, Amanda Sigman (Bradley); grandson, Jason Powell, five great grandchildren, two brothers, David Powell (Frances), Gary Powell (Ginger) sister-in-law, Kathy Powell, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis was a proud and faithful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, soldier, Mason and Christian. He loved and was loved by his wife and children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren and his brothers. He will be sorely missed and loved forever.
May the peace of God which passeth all understanding abide with him forever.
