Louis M. "Mike" Nelson Sr., 73, of Panama City, FL passed away on Saturday, June, 1, 2019. He was born in Dothan, AL on November 7, 1945 to Louis A. "Ike" and Mary Alyce Nelson. Mike was a 1963 graduate of Bay High School and a 1973 graduate from Florida State University. He served Panama City and Bay County as Commissioner from 1979-1987, 1988-1992, 2004-2016. He also served on several city and county advisory boards. His family were long time members of First Presbyterian Church of Panama City. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Anne Christo Nelson; one nephew, Gary Nelson Lewis. He is survived by one son, Louis Michael Nelson, Jr. (Janie); one brother, Roy M. "Gil" Nelson (Brenda); one sister, Angela Nelson Lewis (Tom); one niece, Hope Nelson Pope (Mike); many cousins and extended family. A private service will be held at a later date. A memorial scholarship in memory of Louis M. "Mike" Nelson Sr. has been arranged at Gulf Coast State College. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Bay County Humane Society, the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund or any organization in their efforts to restore Panama City/ Bay County from the devastation of Hurricane Michael. The family would like to thank his many friends and loyal supporters over the years.
