Louis Madison Lyda, II, 62, of Panama City passed away May 14, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 31, 1952 in Macon, Georgia and his family moved to Panama City in 1961. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City. An outstanding trombonist, he graduated from the School of Music at Florida State University. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and all that living in the panhandle has to offer.

Mr. Lyda is best known for his almost 40-year teaching career as a Band Director. He taught at Everitt Junior High, Rosenwald Junior High, Roulhac Middle School, and for the last 27 years of his career at Merritt Brown Middle School. He served as band and solo and ensemble adjudicator throughout the state of Florida, was a member of the Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, and was an elected member of the American School Band Directors Association. Mr. Lyda found great joy teaching and in the accomplishments of his students.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis F. and Elizabeth (Betty) Lyda. He is survived by his son, Dr. Robert Louis Lyda and wife Carrie of Auburn, AL; son, Brandon Edward Lyda and wife Ashley of Panama City Beach; sister, Lynn Lyda Stryker and brother-in-law, Terry Stryker of Panama City; dear friend, Judy Kelly of Panama City; and his beloved grandchildren, Harrison Louis Lyda and Allison Elizabeth Lyda of Auburn, AL.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 4 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m.
