LILLIAN CULBRETH VICKERS STAFFORD
Mrs. Lillian Stafford lost her long battle with COPD on Sunday, May 17, 2009, and went home to be with her Lord. She was born May 10, 1928 in Columbia, Alabama to the late James Thomas and Mamie Lillian Culbreth Vickers. She has lived in Bay County since 1950. She was preceded in death by two infants, two sisters, Mary Cecil (Hal) Sherwood, and Jewel Marie (Charles) Eubanks, three aunts and an uncle, Misses Allison and Pattie Culbreth of Panama City, Mrs. Christine (Hurley) Causey of Dothan, and Mr. Cecil Beryl (Ruth) Culbreth of Panama City, and one nephew. She is survived by her husband and friend of nearly 63 years, L.W. (Low Water) Stafford, one son, George Leman (Lee Ann) Stafford, and two much loved grandchildren, Kelly and Jake Stafford. She is also survived by one sister, Julia Mae (Jack) Hagler, and one brother, Tom (Imogene) Vickers, all of Panama City, and nine nieces and nephews.
Always active, Lillian worked with Stafford in several enterprises after having worked at Arizona Chemical for a number of years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Lillie Pennington Class and a former member of Northside Baptist Church. She was always interested in her community, and was a past member of the Forest Park Women's Club, where she served as president, the GFWC Woman's Club of Panama City, and the Panama City Lion's Auxiliary.
She had a great interest in genealogy, and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of Emerald Coast Hospice, which allowed Lillian to stay home in her last days. Donations may be made to that organization in Lillian's memory.
She requested that she be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 – 7 p.m.
