LELAND W. SINGLETON
LTC Leland W. Singleton (Retired) of Panama City, FL passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Gulf Coast Hospital at the age of 71, with 36 years of service with the Florida Army National Guard.
He was a graduate of Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL, and joined the Florida Army National Guard in 1955. He is a past Exalted Ruler of BPOE #1598 of Panama City, FL, member of BPOE #937 of Tallahassee, and member of Moose Lodge #1389 of Panama City, FL.
He will be greatly missed by many friends, especially those of Publix, Silver Saints, Hiland Park Baptist Church, the Bashabazook, his many life long friends of the Guard, and to the many that knew him as the Candy Man who was always delivering candy.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Singleton, two daughters Deni Clayton (husband Ed) of Tallahassee, FL and Kelly Bell of Sanford, FL and grandchildren Amy Leigh Cook of Tallahassee, FL and Keegan Bell of Sanford, FL; his mother, Christine B. Mitchell and stepfather George D. Mitchell of Tallahassee, FL and best buddy, Richard Rash of Panama City.
Family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hiland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Fondren officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. CST at the Providence Baptist Church in Greensboro, FL.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Cliff West Sunday School Class, Members of 3/124 Infantry Florida Army National Guard, Iris Corbett and Silver Saints of Hiland Park Baptist Church and Old Friends Breakfast Club.
