LAURIE CAROLYN HOLCOMBE HOOD

Laurie Carolyn Holcombe Hood, 89, of Terre Haute and formerly of Panama City, Florida died Saturday morning, December 29, 2007 in Royal Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a bookkeeper and financial secretary having worked for First Baptist Church of Valdosta, Georgia and First Baptist Church of Panama City, Florida. She was born July 14, 1918 in Bainbridge, Georgia to Lester Arrington Holcombe and Opie Toole Holcombe. Her husband, Homer Clarence Hood, preceded her in death on August 28, 1988.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Truitt Hood Dever and Thomas Edward Dever of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Clifton Dever and Clayton Dever; a brother and sister-in-law, John Holcombe and his wife, Ximena; sister-in-law, Ann Z. Hood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

Carolyn was a member of the Panama City Women's Club, PTA and dedicated much of her life working and being active in her church. She was a true "Southern Lady" and was a very loving person especially of her family. "It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end."

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2008 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 2, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. EST at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, Georgia. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Run the Race Building Fund of First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1200, Panama City, Florida 32402.
