Obituary

Laudious Lawrence "Tommy" Thompson Jr., 86, of Panama City, FL passed away on Saturday January 14, 2017. He was born in Panama City, FL on February 27, 1930 to Laudious Lawrence and Zillah Hutchison Thompson. He was a Bay High School graduate in the class of 1948. He attended Florida State University where he was a part of the schools Flying Circus Team. He graduated from the University of Florida and was a founding member of the gymnastic team at the University. He was the owner and operator of Tommy's Sporting Goods and Trophy Center. He also retired from the Bay County Property Appraiser's office. He is preceded in death by his wife Yvonne Sanders Thompson; grandson, Kyle Thompson; granddaughter, Katelyn Tillis. He is survived by his four children, Lynne Mincey (Phillip), Beth Thompson, Larry Thompson (Lori), Tommy Thompson (Leanne). He was known as "Poppie" to his 11 grandchildren, Nicole Mincey, Phillip Mincey, Jennifer Braden (Justin), Caylee DeFries (Matt), Larry Thompson (Austin), Kara Colley (Jerry), Mark Thompson, Will Thompson, Tyson Thompson, Ben Thompson, Jacob Tillis; 7 great grandchildren, Joby Braden, Judson Braden, Jolene Braden, Mason DeFries, Jerry Colley, Freya Thompson, Bailee Grace Thompson; sister-in-law, Shirley Davis (Phil); and cousins in both his Thompson and Hutchinson families. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 18, 2017 at 11 am in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-11 am prior to the service.  Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Johnston, Jack Laird, Harold Dykes, Charles (Bubba) Ware, the Burl Waller Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Chipley.  The family would like to thank the Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, the Northwest Florida Hospital in Chipley and Covenant Care Hospice for their excellent care. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Covenant Care Hospice.
