KATHRYN ANNE BENTON ANDERSON
Kay passed away Sunday morning, July 12, 2009 in the company of her family. Born Annie Katherine Bennett in Panama City on March 29, 1921, her family moved to Chipley, FL in 1929. She attended Judson College for Women and achieved a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama in May of 1942. She then married Harmon Samuel "Skeet" Benton in Hondo, Texas in December of the same year after his graduation from Army Air Corps boot camp. After Skeet's return from Air Combat service in Europe, they moved back to Chipley where she gave birth to a daughter, her only child, Sharon Myrtle Benton. In 1969, they moved back to the Panama City area. In 1973, Kay lost her first husband to cancer. On August 30, 1978, she married Oakley Stewart Anderson. She was an active member of the Panama City Woman's Club and The First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven serving in the Session and the Church Circle of Ruth as well as other civic organizations. She was preceded in death by both her mother and father, Fred and Annie, both husbands, and her sister, Helen. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Burdeshaw and husband, Clay; granddaughters, Kathrine and Debra; step sons, Jeff and Don Anderson and their families; as well as her niece, Ann Morgan, grand niece, Michelle and her daughter, Kaylee; cousins, Julian Bennett and family, and her church family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven with Rev. Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 5 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery, Chipley, Florida. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Kay Benton.
