JUNE JEAN ESTES
June Jean Estes passed away on December 29th, 2010 at her home in Kings Point with her loving family by her side. She passed away from a long battle with emphysema but she fought it right up until the end. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Guy "Ron" Estes and her three children, Kelly Velde, Robyn Lewis, and Jason Estes. She also is survived by 5 grandchildren who adored her: Tyler(8), Carson(6), and Jordyn(5) Velde, Juliette(6) and Alexandra(4) Lewis. She has two sisters, Valerie Lloyd, who lives in Panama City, and Irene Hanson, who resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Valerie has two children, Georgina Grizzard and Martin Lloyd, both who reside in Panama City.
June was born on November 21, 1937 in Inverness, Scotland. Her parents were Benji and Elizabeth Calder. She had three sisters and a brother. Her mother passed away when she was only nine so June took care of her family for years. She moved to the Baltimore, Maryland when she was twenty two and became a governess for one of the John Hopkins descendants. A few years later, she met Ron while he was attending dental school at Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland. They married on June 6, 1965 and then moved to Pensacola, Kansas City, Minneapolis, and finally landed in Panama City where Ron started his periodontal practice.
June spent her married life devoted to her husband and to her three children. She was active in their early years in their sports and extracurricular activities, particularly as the sponsor/coach of the girl's Northside cheerleading squads for many years. Ron and June later purchased a business in the Panama City Mall called T-Shirts Plus. June, Ron, her sister Valerie, niece Georgina, and all the kids worked together in this "family" business. June was very successful in taking a shop that was almost bankrupt when they purchased it to one of the top sales producers in the country. June put 100% into everything that she did and was a hard worker.
June always said "Live each day as if it were your last" and she did. She was whole heartedly dedicated to her family and gave all of herself to others. She also lived by the Golden Rule. As simple as this is, she truly was a wonderful example of this. In all the years with her, she only had kind words and actions towards others. Ron says that she was the "light of his life". June always had an upbeat attitude, always had a smile on her face, and a great sense of humor. She never met a stranger. She was a faithful wife, dedicated mother, and a true friend. June was a beautiful person both inside and out. All who knew her, loved her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 31, 2010 from 1 – 2 pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Panama City, Florida and the Memorial Service will follow from 2 – 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405 in memory of June Estes.
