JUDITH HELENE HOUSER
Judith Helene Houser, of Panama City, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at a local hospital. She was born on October 20, 1928 in Ravenna, Ohio to Carl and Bernice Bossinger Douglass. She grew up in a family with five daughters and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Bachelor of Education from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
She was a wonderful loving wife and mother for 55 years. She and her husband, Carl, shared many adventures and challenges by being part of a military family. As a result, she had the experiences of seeing many parts of the nation and world and always adapted to the new surroundings and made it a home.
She raised four children with her husband. She always made time and put in the effort to be actively involved in her children's activities whether it was being a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader, school room mother, or band chaperone as well as providing the encouragement to pursue any and all academic and artistic interests.
She had been a resident of Panama City since 1968, moving here from Heath, Ohio. She had a lifelong dedication to community service. She was past president of the Tyndall Air Force Base Officers Wife's Club, the past president of the Panama City Woman's Club, the past president and founding member of the Gulf Coast Woman's Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was also an active member of the choir for 25 years.
She is survived by her husband, Carlton Houser of Panama City; her children and their spouses, her son Richard Houser and his wife Eva of Hollywood, South Carolina; her son Stephen Houser and his wife Nell of Round Rock, Texas; her daughter Cheryl Houser and her husband Jim Diffell of Columbia, Maryland; her daughter Judith Horne and her husband Edward of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Sara Houser of Boston; Nicholas Houser of Round Rock; Abigail Houser of Round Rock; and four sisters, Jo Heisler of Kent, Ohio; Eleanor Marvin of Mantua, Ohio; Esther Freed of Oberlin, Ohio, and Jean Gombert of Copley, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Warren officiating. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Gulf Coast Woman's Club.
