JOYCE Z. McKELVIN
Mrs. Joyce Z. McKelvin, 72, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Panama City after a long illness.
Born on December 30, 1938, Joyce spent her childhood in Pennsylvania and Alabama, but she lived in Panama City for most of her adult life. Her father drove her to Panama City to interview for her first teaching job. She was hired as a teacher and met her husband, Panama City native Bubba McKelvin, at work. Joyce retired from teaching after over 33 years as an educator in the Bay County School System, most of that time teaching Humanities at Bay High School. She loved her students, fellow educators, grandchildren and her condo at the beach. Mrs. McKelvin attended St. Dominic's Catholic Church.
Mrs. McKelvin was preceded in death by her husband, George H. "Bubba" McKelvin, Jr., and her parents, Daniel J. and Angelina M. Zucco. Survivors are her beloved sons, George H."Trey" McKelvin III of Tampa and Michael D. McKelvin of Birmingham; her daughters-in-law, Jacque Piche McKelvin and Jodi Kinard McKelvin; her grandchildren, George H. "Mac" McKelvin, IV, Carson Olivia McKelvin, Mason James McKelvin, and Wyatt Daniel McKelvin; her brothers, Roger Zucco of Jacksonville and Richard Zucco of Montevallo, Alabama, along with numerous nephews and a niece.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. A private family interment will follow. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time. The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to Community Health and Rehabilitation Center of Panama City, as well as the tireless support and friendships of Ann Kinard and Sue McCord over these many months.
She will be greatly missed by all.
