Joseph "Joe" Wayne Marshall of Lynn Haven, FL died Saturday September 22, 2018. Survived by his mother Reba Wade Marshall, daughters Holly Marshall Crowley, MD and her husband Michael A. Crowley, MD and Leigh Marshall Dow, MBA and her husband Aaron C. Dow, and his seven grandchildren. He was a devoted grandfather to Alex T. Crowley and his wife Elin Hahn Crowley, Sean M. Crowley, Quinn M. Crowley, Mary-Grace M. Crowley of Thomasville, Georgia; and Darby E. McDaniel, Ashley A. Dow and Jackson B. Dow of Chandler, Arizona.
Joe was born in Panama City, FL on October 2, 1941 to Wayne H. Marshall and Mary "Reba" Wade Marshall, he was 76 years old. He was a 1959 graduate of Bay High School. He married Toni B. Smith in Panama City, Florida on January 18, 1964. Joe attended Cove Elementary School and Bay High School. He was an active member of the Bay County Historical Society and a member of the Florida State University Booster Club.
Joe was a former Property & Casualty Underwriter with State Farm, and studied Law at the University of Florida. Joe received his Bachelor's degree with a double major in History and International Relations from Florida State University in 1963 and studied Liberal Arts at Gulf Coast Community College.
Last year, Joe was honored to have his family name added to the First Families of Bay County as one of the county's certified pioneers who were living in the county before it was officially formed April 24, 1913. The Marshall family has a long and storied history in the county. Joe's grandfather, William Henry Marshall, was the first county clerk of court, elected in 1913. William's wife, Idumea Gray, also came from an early Bay County family that arrived in the early 1900's.
He will be remembered by his family for his love of history, trivia, his quick wit and his ability to tell an amazing story. He hated vegetables and loved fresh Gulf fried shrimp and Cane Syrup. Waffle Shoppe lost a loyal customer Saturday.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 PM in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 PM to 2 PM Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
