JOSEPH DOUGLAS PUSKAR
Joseph Douglas Puskar - age 89 of Dayton, Nevada died on August 4, 2013 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Reno, Nevada after a long battle with Dementia. Douglas (Doug) also known as Doug Karr was born in Poughkeepsie New York on November 9, 1923 to Joseph Michael and Ethyl Puskar. Doug graduated from Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, New York; He served in the Army Air Corp 1942 - 1945 completing 30 missions in Germany during World War II. Doug ended his military service with an Honorable Discharge. Having infantile par as a child it was perceived he would not have the ability to do manual labor and thus was introduced to the music world becoming a renowned Tenor Banjo Artist and Music Teacher in the Bay Area, California. Doug performed several concerts with Arthur Fielder of the Boston Pops, toured with the Big Tiny Little Band, and later with his band "Doug Karr's All Stars" at the Silver Stope, in Virginia City, Nevada owned by Doug and his wife Doris.
Having always been interested in law enforcement, he joined the Storey County Sheriff's Dept in 1978 and retired as Staff Sgt. in 1992.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Doris; 3 sons, Joseph Douglas Puskar, Kevin Puskar and wife Jody Puskar, Joseph Michael Puskar II and wife Jeanetta Marie Puskar; Stepsons, Douglas Wayne Puskar and wife Rhonda, Richard Adrian Hickox, 7 Grandchildren; 3 Great grandchildren; sister, Ethlyn Schubert; 1 nephew, Robert Schubert and his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m.
