DR. JOSEPH HENRY MORRIS
Dr. Joseph Henry Morris passed away at his home Thursday, November 4, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Maysville, Georgia, in 1918. Dr. Morris graduated from the University of Georgia, Tulane Medical School and then completed his surgical residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and Shreveport, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose Marie Cameron Morris and his children: Dr. Joseph Henry Morris, Jr. and wife Linda, Tippy Davis and husband Steve, Dr. Rodney Cameron Morris and wife Mae, Dr. Gilbert Franklin Morris and wife Cindy. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
When Dr. Morris moved to Panama City, Florida, in 1949, he was the first general surgeon to practice in Bay County. He was on staff at Bay Medical Center since its inception and later at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He also served on the Board of Trustees at Bay Medical Center. As a board certified general surgeon, Dr. Morris was a member of the Bay's Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Surgeons.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church of Panama City with Rev. David Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the church from 1 p.m. until service time.
The family is especially grateful for the dedication of his caregivers: Vangie Roberts, Fe Carlisle, Lisa Stanfill, and Willy Flores. A very special thank you to Bo Rogers who was his companion and helpmate for over a decade.
