DR. JOSEPH J. McBRIDE, JR.
Dr. Joseph J. McBride, Jr., died Thursday, August 22 while surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born on December 10, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA. He graduated St. Josephs College and entered the navy during WWII. He served on a destroyer escort in the South Pacific as a Naval Gunnery Officer. Upon leaving the navy following WWII, he completed his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Delaware.
Joe and family settled in Panama City in 1962 where he was Manager of Development for Arizona Chemical Company. Early in his career, he earned 5 patents related to mineral oil compositions. Joe was an avid hunter, fisherman and home-gardener. He was an active member of St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, where he socialized with many of his closest friends.
Joe was a past member of the Military Affairs Committee, and volunteer for the American Cancer Society and helped tutor elementary children in the After School Assistance Program.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. McBride, his son Major Joseph J. McBride, III and his daughter, Kathleen M. Brahier. He is survived by his sister, Agnes (Sis) Dunlap, his children, Michael McBride, (Ada) Fleming Island, FL, Kevin McBride, (Patricia) N. Royalton, OH, Maureen McBride, Panama City, Ellen Fitzgibbon, (Steve) Panama City and Anne Essler, Bluffton, SC, Son-In-Law, Kermit Brahier, Daughter-in-Law, Connie McBride, and 9 grandchildren.
The family wants to extend thanks to the professional staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center for their wonderful care and support, and a special thanks to Dr. Tim Smith for his exceptional service to our father during his final days.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
