Joseph T. Manning, 87, passed away on Sunday November 12, 2017. He was born January 1, 1930 in Jacksonville, FL and attended Landon High School, the University of Florida and had a degree in Economics from Florida State University. His continuing education included advanced degree work at Penn State University, University of North Dakota, London Business School and he became a Certified Financial Planner. Joe was a man of many interests. He loved his family, his collection of cars, his boat and the happy times spent on the golf course with friends. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Following his tour in Vietnam with 51 combat missions, he received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 devices and the Air Medal. He was assigned to the Air Staff of Washington D.C. followed by a tour on the Joint Chiefs of Staff Pentagon. He retired from Tyndall Air Force Base as Commander of the 678 Air Defense Group ADC. Following his retirement from the U.S.A.F., he became an Investment Broker with A.G. Edwards and Sons and Wells Fargo Advisors as a Certified Financial Planner and Vice President of Investments. He loved Panama City, his home, and enjoyed being a part of the community. His community involvement included serving as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board at Tyndall Federal Credit Union. In 1999, the Florida Credit Union League honored him when he was selected as Volunteer of the Year and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He served as President of the local Air Force Association, board member of the United Way, and Girls Inc. He was a member and served as an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the Rotary Club International, Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs, Red River Valley Pilots Association, St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club and Director on the Board of Florida State University Panama City Campus, Bay Medical Center and Anchorage Children's Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. and Violet Manning and brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones. He is survived by his wife, Angeline; daughter, Mildred "Mimi" Clark (Terry); two grandchildren, Angie Hall (Korey), Charlie Smith; sisters, Norma Leuthold (Duane), Dorothy Jones; brother, Eugene Manning (Sandra); and numerous of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, November 17, 2017, with the family receiving friends from 1:00-2:00 pm and the service starting at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Smith, Dr. Rodney Morris, Ross McCloy, Harold Bazzel, Russ Mathis, Dr. Pat Mathis, Charlie Mathis and Benjamin Gray. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group, the Closer Walk Bible Class, Red River Rats, First Presbyterian Church Session, Tommy Meredith, Col. (Ret) Lou Churchill, and Horace Mathis. A private family interment will follow the service. In lieu of flowers remembrance if desired may be made to Anchorage Children's Home or First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in memory of Joe.
