Joseph F. Clemo, 98, of Panama City, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011 in a local hospital. He was born November 29, 1912 in Birmingham, AL. He worked as the Superintendent of motor power for Southern Railroad for 49 years in the Birmingham, Alabama, Meridian, Mississippi and Macon, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army as Captain in the Engineering Regiment attached to General George Patton's First Army during World War II. He retired from active service as a Major in 1946 and retired from Army Reserves as a Lt. Colonel in 1950. He was an accomplished golfer and sports fan. He was a past Senior Amateur Alabama State Champion and had "Shot his age" three times. He loved watching the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Frances Clemo. He is survived by a son Don Clemo and wife, Sissy; 2 grandsons, Brad Clemo and wife, Jennifer; Scott Clemo and wife, Mary Marie; 7 great grandchildren, Jonathan Clemo, Lindsay Clemo, Drew Clemo, Si Clemo, Rose Clemo, Sunny Clemo, Cubby Clemo and Sissy Clemo's son, Stephen Brown and wife, Dawn and their children, Malayna, Madeline, Madison and Manaen. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perpetual Care Fund for the Delia Clemo Meditation Garden c/o Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 219 N. Alf Coleman Road, Panama City Beach, FL 32407.
