John William Silcox, Jr.
March 23, 1932 – December 18, 2013
John W. Silcox, Jr. passed into eternity on December 18, 2013, from his home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 23, 1932 to parents John and Nell Silcox in Millville, Florida. He graduated from Bay County High School in 1949 and then from Florida State University in 1953. Afterwards he served in the United States Air Force for four years. In 1955 he married Marilyn Kay Skinner of Archer, FL. After the Air Force, they returned to and made their home in Panama City. He formed Silcox Adjusting Agency which he operated for more than 30 years. He then became a process server and private investigator for local law enforcement agencies and law firms. He also served as Mayor of Panama City from 1965–1971.
He was predeceased in death by his loving wife Marilyn in 2000. He was later blessed in 2003 by a second marriage to Ann Sessions Syfrett. He was a man of faith, loved his country, and dearly loved and was loved by his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
He is predeceased in death by his wife Marilyn Silcox, his parents John and Nell Silcox, and one sister John Nell "Johnnie" Turpin. Survivors include his loving wife Ann Silcox; children Cindy Parrish (Jeff) of Deatsville, AL, Bill Silcox (Mary Jane) of Bonifay, FL, Rebecca Solberg (Brian) of Hartland, MN, and Charlie Silcox (Paula) of Tallahassee, FL; step-children Clayton Syfrett (Kim), of Panama City, and Elizabeth Moore (John), of Panama City; sister Grace Lippe (Ed) of Austin, TX; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Panama City. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5 – 7 p.m.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Thomas Johnson, the IV therapy nurses and staff of Sacred Heart Hospital in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and the wonderful staff of Covenant Hospice.
