John H Strength, 92, of Lynn Haven, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 in his home. He was born March 24, 1926 in Coffee County, Alabama. He was a World War II Combat Engineering Veteran of the Burma, China, India Campaigns (Ledo Road, Mars Task Force). He retired from Stone Container/Southwest and International Paper Companies He was also a real estate salesman with Farrell Reality in Lynn Haven. John served several terms as Lynn Haven City Commissioner. He was Past President of Lynn Haven Chamber of Commerce; Past Member of the Council of 100 and a Member of St. Andrews Masonic Lodge #212 for 65 years. John loved Florida State and University of Alabama Football. He served on the Board of Directors for Bay Industrial Credit Union and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven. John loved riding and working on bicycles and was a Master Gardener who loves planting and sharing vegetables from his garden. John loved family get together- picnics, cookouts, fish fries, Loraine Sanders fried shrimp and was a big fan of Dale Carnegie
He was preceded in death by his parents John James Strength and Elizabeth Phillips Strength. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Strength; three children, John David Strength (Becky), Danny Joe Strength (Candy); Douglas Strength (Gail); five grandchildren, Josh Strength (Michelle), Casey Strength (Sarah), Melissa Mayers (Andy), Lori Turner (Dustin Davis), Derby Strength and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven with Rev. Lisa Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military and masonic rites conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Active pallbearers are Andy Mayers, Lance Mayers, Eric Pepper, Mark Grice, Jacob Grice and Devin Eubanks. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the St. Andrew Masonic Lodge #212.
