JOHN WELLING "BARNEY" POOLE
John Welling "Barney" Poole, 85, of Panama City, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011. He was born June 2, 1925 in Christianstead, St. Croix, Virgin Islands to Ralph Poole, LT USN and Ethel Welling Poole, Navy Nurse, who were laid to rest in the first World War National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina. He graduated high school in Washington, DC and then attended the University of Florida. He married Mary Stuart Smith on December 19, 1953 at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, FL. Mr. Poole was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army for 26 months, serving in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He also worked as a land acquisition analyst for the International Paper Company, retiring in 1987. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stuart Poole. He is survived by his two children, Andrew "Andy" Poole of Panama City, and Margaret "Meg" Costabile, of San Marcos, CA; three grandchildren, Christopher Casillas and wife Andrea, Jennifer Casillas, all of Austin, TX, and Charles Jacob "Jake" Poole, of Panama City; one great granddaughter, Scarlett Casillas, of Austin, TX and one sister, Clara Poole Bellman, of Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church.
