John M. Lenhart, Jr.
John Lenhart, 82, of Panama City, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in his home. He was born in Lakewood, FL on April 3, 1925. He grew up on a farm in Covington County, AL as the only child of John M. and Vesta Williams Lenhart. He attended local schools and graduated from Pleasant Home High School in 1943. Shortly thereafter he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served until the end of World War II as a Communications Specialist. He was in the battle of Iwo Jima and the occupation of Japan. For several years afterward he worked the family farm and also gained some training and experience in servicing Radio, TV, and Electronics. He married Mary Kelley in 1949. They moved to Panama City, Fla. in 1955 where he worked for what is now the Naval Coastal Systems Station for 33 years as an Electronics Technician and retired in Sept. 1988. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary K. Lenhart. He was preceded in death by two Daughters, Lori in 1966 and Janet in 2001. He does leave behind a number of friends from the workplace, church, and neighborhood and other activities. John was a Protestant by faith and Baptist by denomination. His special interests included religious ministries on TV, Amateur Radio (call sign K4MAC), home computering and internet, country music, family pets, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels, and dining out and shopping with his wife. Graveside Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made Bay County Humane Society, 1600 Bay Ave., Panama City, FL 32405.
