John Leslie Hentz, 79, of Panama City, FL passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2020. He was born on July 28, 1940 in Pensacola, FL. He was a 1958 graduate of Bay High School then earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of Hentz Dairy and Armstrong's Diamond and Bride Shop. He then went on to work as a real estate agent, investigator, and appraiser. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City. He was preceded in death by his parents, John G. Hentz Jr. and Ruth Merritt Hentz; one sister, Ruthie Dudley. He is survived by his wife, Frances Hentz; three children, Tracey Hentz Leary (Ross), Kayce Hentz Amlong (Curt), Kit Hentz (Kimberly); thirteen grandchildren, Evan Leary, John Merritt Leary, Marshall Leary, Christian Amlong, Haley Amlong, Sarah Beth Amlong, Esther Amlong, Olivia Hentz, Caleb Hentz, Jay Hentz, Caroline Hentz, Hope Hentz, Jack Hentz; one nephew, George Dudley Jr.; one niece, Kindhal Dudley. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Monday, January 6, 2020. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Haney, Charles Weathersby, Stan Timmins, Sam Fischer, Billy Cannon, Norman Segler and the Bay High School class of 1958. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Panama City , P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402, in memory of John L. Hentz.
