John Marshall Evans, Sr.
1927 - 2013
Our father, grand-father, and great-grandfather went to his eternal resting place on Feb. 4. 2013. Marshall was born in Brewton, Ala and served in the US Navy during World War II. He moved to Panama City in 1949 and married Frankie Ann Richardson, in 1952. Marshall and Ann owned and operated Bay Upholstery and Drapery Shop on Cove Boulevard. Marshall had previously worked for J&P Transfer Company, as well as Arizona Chemical Company.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Annie Evans of Brewton, Ala; his sister Jeanne Maxwell; and his brothers Samuel Rufus "Jiggs" Evans, Seth Rankin Evans, and Charles Leslie Evans.
Marshall was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lillie Pennington class. For many years Marshall helped procure and operate a series of buses for the First United Methodist Church that were used to transport the youth groups and other church members to numerous events throughout the United States.
Marshall is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Frankie Ann Evans; his sister Julia "Judy" McClure of Las Vegas NV, three sons, John Marshall Evans Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., and Steven Gary Evans and William Jay Evans of Panama City, FL; seven grandchildren Jayson Christopher Evans, Adam Lee Evans, Lauren Ann Medina, Katherine Brittany Evans, Steven Gary Evans II, Kimberly Elizabeth Evans, and John Richardson Evans and five great-grandchildren Elaina Lopez, Gavin and Gisele Medina, Payton Elisa and Presley Jo Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church-Raymond Jones Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
