JOHN B. DANNER, JR.
John B. Danner, Jr. passed away Tuesday July 14, 2009 in Panama City, FL. John was 89. He was born in Newark, Ohio on April 18, 1920 to Vera and John B. Danner, Sr.
John was a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. During his senior year at Dickinson, he was inducted into the Raven's Claw honorary society. John was an excellent high school and college basketball and baseball player. After graduating from Dickinson in1945, he joined the United States Coast Guard and obtained the rank of Lieutenant. He coached the U.S. Coast Guard basketball team of the Fourth Naval District in Philadelphia, PA. After an honorable discharge from the Coast Guard he began a 35 year career with Scott Paper Company as an Industrial Engineer. He met his wife Betsy Watson Danner at Scott's corporate headquarters and they were married on Sept. 6, 1952 in Swarthmore PA. During his career with Scott Paper he lived in Glens Falls, NY, Chester, PA, Detroit, MI and Mobile, AL. He retired in 1981 as Manager of Production Services at Scott Paper Company's largest plant in Mobile, AL. In 1984, he and Betsy moved from Mobile to their beach home in Perdido Key, FL where they lived until moving to Panama City, FL in 2004.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Betsy Watson Danner. He is survived by his son, John (Jack) B. Danner, III and wife Pauline of Panama City, FL; two beloved grandchildren, Virginia Danner Spiva and husband Lee of Panama City, FL; and John B. Danner, IV (Benjamin) of Tallahassee, FL. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Ann Danner of Wawa, PA.
The Danner's are thankful for the compassionate care provided by Ann Carter and her family.
The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home, Friday July 17, 2009 from 6-8 PM.
