John Walter Clemons, Sr.
1926 – 2011
John Walter Clemons, Sr., 84, of Parker, Florida, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 16, 2011, at Bay Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends.
John was born on September 19, 1926 in Houston County, Alabama to Ester Clemons and Bessie Lee Clemons. He moved to Panama City, Florida with his parents when he was young. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and throughout the Cold War. John served 23 years in the military earning many medals and commendations throughout his career. John retired from the military and later worked as the meat market manager for many years with Johnson Brothers Meats. John lived in Parker, Florida and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Parker. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #142 and was a Mason for nearly 50 years.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel Kathleen Clemons, of Parker, Florida; by his brother and his wife Robert Earl Clemons and Barbara Casey Clemons of Bayou George, Florida; by his son and his wife John Walter Clemons, Jr. and Dawn Snow Clemons of Birmingham, Alabama and their three sons, John Garrett, Robert Justin, and Michael Everett; by his daughter Jennifer Kathleen (Kat) Clemons, of Phoenix, Arizona; by his daughter and her husband Melissa K. Witka and Richard A. Witka of Gresham, Oregon, and their son Nathan John; and by Lori Sarro, of Parker, Florida, who is like a daughter.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, February 18, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery on West Street in Parker.
