John Franklin Bynum passed from this earthly life into eternal life at 2 AM on Sunday June 18, 2017. He was born December 17, 1934 in Panama City, Florida. He was a 1952 graduate of Bay High, where he lettered in football and baseball, after which he attended the University of Florida and was a Gator fan for life. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954 and attained the rank of Sergeant. After the Marine Corps, John Franklin worked in the construction industry for over 30 years with Sikes Concrete Pipe until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Carl Bynum, step father, JC "Archie" Herndon, daughter Rosalyn Sikes Bynum Lowery, sons, Thomas Franklin Bynum, Steven Wayne Pittard, Gary Milward Dean and grandson, John Gray Bynum. John is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Doris Bynum, sister, Rosemary Bynum Cotten; children John Hubert Bynum, Amy Louise Bynum Emery, James Carl Bynum and wife Kelly, Michael Alan Pittard and wife Frances, Larry Edward Dean and Deborah Garrett, Roger Philip Dean and wife Denise, daughter-in-law, Ginger Dean, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John Franklin will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Viewing will be Wednesday, June 21st at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be 10 AM, Thursday June 22nd at St. Dominic's Catholic Church on East Hwy 98 with graveside service immediately following at the Catholic Cemetery on Frankford Avenue. A reception will be held at St. Dominic's Parish hall.
Pallbearers will be John Hubert Bynum, James Carl Bynum, Michael Alan Pittard, Larry Edward Dean, Roger Philip Dean, Clayton Burchell and John Burchell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 1952 and many other special friends.
