JOE M. STOKES

Joe M. Stokes, 78, of Panama City, died 27 May 2008 (Tuesday) at a local hospital. He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and had been a resident of Panama City since 1963. He was Protestant by faith. He retired after 26 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant in the USAF. He was a Korean War Veteran and served during the Vietnam Era. He continued to serve the nation as a civilian employee of both the USAF and USMC, for an additional 14 years. His favorite hobbies were shooting pool and spending time with his family. In addition he enjoyed auto mechanics, home repair, wood working, hunting, fishing and military affairs. He was a member of the AMVETS (Post 2298), Callaway, FL, the National Association of Uniformed Services, the Disabled American Veterans, and a lifetime member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (Post 8205) Parker, FL. In his retirement, he spent many hours "piddling" in his shop and his wealth of knowledge will be missed by both friends and family! He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elva Stokes, Panama City, FL, three daughters, Jodene Hall and husband Harold, of Picayune, MS, Alicia Hollomon and husband Mel, of Panama City, FL, Marsha Bass and husband, Gary, of Columbus AFB, MS, son, Frankie Stokes and wife Angie, of Panama City, FL, six grandchildren, Jason Hall and wife Loren, Alan Hollomon and wife Janet, Heather Hall, Frederic Bass, Andrew Hollomon and Bailey Stokes, two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Macy Hall, siblings, Billy Stokes, Sr. of Rossville, GA, Barbara Houston of Rock Springs, GA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter H. Stokes, mother, Mae H. Stokes and two brothers, Walter, Jr. and Tim. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wilson Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m.
