Joe Frank Moore, 87, of Panama City, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Joe was born in Darlington, FL. on June 28, 1929 to the late Glen and Ella Rae Russ Moore. He attended Leonia Elementary School, Walton High School, University of Florida, Hemphill Diesel School, Gulf Coast Community College, and Florida State University.
Joe began working at International Paper Company in 1949 as a laborer and he retired in 1984 as Pulp Mill Superintendent. After retirement, Joe joined his father-in-law, Henry Mack Lewis, in developing Derby Woods, Mill Bayou, The Meadows, and The Landing.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of The Asbury Sunday School Class which he named. He had an excellent knowledge of the Bible and enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes for both the Asbury Bible Class and the Mack Lewis Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of Shriners International. Joe enjoyed fishing, woodworking, cooking, travel, and computers.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy Lewis Moore and his four-legged companion, Molly; his two sons, Dr. Timothy Moore (wife Lauren Brewster) from Tallahassee and Rod Moore (wife Barbara "Babe" Folensbee) from Baltimore, MD.; sister, Glenda Spann from Panama City, brother, Henry Moore from Bonifay; one granddaughter, Mairin Brewster Moore from Tallahassee; niece, Gina Farkas of Panama City (husband George & family); nephews, Stephan Spann of Dothan, AL. & family and Glen Orin Moore of MS. (wife Virginia), cousins, Edward Moore of Pensacola (wife Ginger) and Carol Ann Lowe of NC (husband Jim).
Funeral services will be held at 3p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church of Panama City with the Rev. Steve Rascoe and the Rev. Jim Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Tem Fontaine, Conrad Freed, Hershel Holcombe, Tom King, Bill Lewis, Charlie Lewis and Russ Mathis. Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Asbury Sunday School Class and the Mack Lewis Men's Bible Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to First United Methodist Church of Panama City, 903 E. 4th St., Panama City, FL. 32401 or Florida Youth Ranches, Inc., P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch FL. 32064-9984 in memory of Joe F. Moore.
The family would like to thank his niece, Gina Farkas, and friend Kay Hankins for seeing that he had the best care possible.
