Joe B. Fowler 90, of Panama City Beach, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017. He was born July 24, 1926 in Western Kentucky of a family of nine children, and surrendered his life to the Lord at the age of 15. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 and returned to Western Kentucky where he met Sara Major, who became his bride in August of 1949. They made their home in Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked for the Louisville Board of Trade as a grain inspector for two years. He then went to work for Gold Proof Elevator, a division of Indiana Farm Bureau Coop Assn., where he worked in numerous positions, including Grain Inspector, Blender, Administrative Assistant, Superintendent and Merchandiser, for a total of 27 ½ years. He attended the University of Louisville. His hobbies were baseball, softball, fishing, swimming and golf. J.B. served as a deacon at Fourth Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville for ten years. He was active in the Masonic Order for a number of years, serving as Master of the Lodge in 1958. He is a member also of the Scottish Rite and Shrine. After J.B.'s suffering a near fatal heart attack in 1978, the Fowlers were divinely led to Panama City Beach, where they resided at the Dunes of Panama and happily participated in praising the Lord at Gulf Beach Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Frances Fowler and a sister, Barbara Sholar. He is survived by two sisters, Martha Wade, Jean Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services and interment will take place in Hopkinsville, Kentucky with Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home conducting. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Shaddai Shrine Temple Transportation Fund in memory of J.B. Fowler.
