Obituary

Joanne Viola Scott, 74, of Panama City, FL passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 in her home with family at her side. She was born September 30, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, married Walter William Stoll, Jr. MD in 1958, earned a BA in Psychology from Ohio Northern University in 1973, and a master's degree in Social Psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1976. She was actively pursuing a doctorate in public health at Cappella University at the time of her death. Joanne was a Registered Nurse since 1971, Certified Nurse Operating Room since 1984, and a Certified Clinical Research Associate since 1998. Joanne was Director of Surgical Services at Saint Therese Medical Center in Waukegan, Illinois from 1981 to 1987, Medical Writer, Clinical Support Specialist, and auditor for Abbott Laboratories from 1988 to 2000, and an independent consultant for quality assurance, monitoring and auditing drug and device trials from 2000 to 2010.
Joanne moved to Panama City, Florida in 1994 and was very active in the music community. She was an honorary member of the Jinks Middle School Band and Bay County Christian Youth Choir. She was an active member of the Bay Wind Community Band, Sweet Adeline Harmony Shores Chorus, and First Presbyterian Church Choir. She enjoyed many years of playing in the Covenant Stage Band (innumerable Valentine Banquets) and church orchestra. She was a strong proponent of music education, and consistently modeled the discipline, joy, and celebration of the lifelong gift of music. In her last weeks, she proudly sported her decade of annual Midsummer Music Retreat T-shirts from Walla Walla, Washington. In her final days, she was serenaded bedside by Lamar and Becky Weatherman (Playground Music), Nevin Zimmerman, and her grandchildren; neighbor Jesselyn Dudinksy; and the First Presbyterian Choir. Her generosity and enthusiasm inspired an infectious joy in those around her.
She is survived by her four children, Bill Stoll (Cheryl Lennon), Barbara Stoll Davis, Jim Scott, and Dr. Scott Stoll (Myra); ten grandchildren, John, Samantha, Rachel, Mark, Jacqueline, Kathryn, Joseph, Christopher, Ryan and Chase; three great grandchildren; her sister Janet Swope (Hal) of Lady Lake, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 3, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 100 East 7th Street, Panama City, Florida at 3:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Bay County Christian Youth Choir (http://www.baycountychristianyouthchoir.com/).
